The Wonderful World of Cinema, In the Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood and Musings of a Classic Film Addict join forces again to host The Marathon Stars Blogathon for a third edition! The last one was already five years ago (how time flies). I thank my friend Samantha from Musings for bringing up the idea to host it again. And, of course, as they say in The Godfather, that was an offer I couldn’t refuse! The blogathon, during its first edition, was originally only hosted by my incomparable fellow blogger Crystal from Good Old Days and me. We then decided to ask Samantha to join the team for the second edition, and we were thrilled to learn she had accepted! Not only was it a great addition to the team, but this is a pretty complex blogathon that can benefit from being hosted by more than one person.
Of course, you might be familiar with The Marathon Stars Blogathon if you have participated or read about it in the previous year, but then, you might have no clue. “Is it a reference to Marathon Man?” I hear you say. I thought of that film when I created the title, but there’s more to it. The blogathon aims to make you discover an actor or an actress you are not familiar enough with. And as it says in the event’s name, the idea is basically to do a little film marathon (and blog about it… Duh!).
By subscribing, we ask you to choose an actor or an actress you have seen in a maximum of three movies. Your role for the blogathon is to watch at least five new-to-you movies with that actor or actress. On the blogathon dates, we ask you to share your thoughts in a blog post on the films you watched during your marathon, share your impressions, tell us what you think about that actor∙tress now, etc.
The even will take place from March 14 to 16, 2024. We will come back later with more details on who’s hosting which day.
To help you familiarise yourself with the concept of the blogathon, here are a few rules and guildelines as a reminder:
1- Choose an actor or an actress you have watched in a maximum of three films. Although the term star is used in the blogathon title, character actor∙tress∙es are very much welcomed. After all, they are stars in their way! We allow you to choose a “modern” performer. However, he or she must have started his or her career in the 2000s. That means Ryan Gosling could be your choice, but Timothée Chalamet is out. After all, we are primarily classic film bloggers. Sorry, Timmy.
2- As there are many many stars to choose from, we obviously won’t allow duplicates.
3- In the same order of ideas, to give a fair chance to everybody, we’ll allow a maximum of two entries/blogger. But, believe me…. one should be plenty.
4- When submitting your subject, tell us the name of your blog, its URL and your chosen topic.
5- Once we have approved your subject and included it to the list of participants, don’t hesitate to start watching the films starring your chosen star as soon as possible. It has to be films you have never seen before and you should watch a minimum of five. So, the sooner, the better. You have until the blogathon to do so, therefore, we suggest you subscribe as soon as possible.
6- Moreover, once your subject has been confirmed, we invite you to choose one of these banners and display it one your blog and social media to help us promote the event! I offer three different size for each banner so it can be used on different social media : Facebook, Instagram and a vertical format for stories.
7- The blogathon will start on March 14 and end on March 16, 2024. We’ll host a day each, so make sure to submit to the right blog depending on when you choose to submit.
8- Your entry should tell us about the films you watched. Of course, your blog post can take as many forms as possible (although it would be nice to know what you thought of the actor∙tress performance since it’s pretty much the central subject of the blogathon). But if you are still worried about what it is all about, you can check my entry on Tallulah Bankhead from the previous edition.
9- Invite your fellow bloggers to participate and have fun! If you have any question, don’t hesitate to ask. You can message me on Twitter @ginnie_sp or The Wonderful Word of Cinema’s Instagram page @wonderfulworldofcinema.

I haven’t seen that series, I recently saw her in Plein Soleil in a wee cameo and Deathwatch which is set in Scotland.

It’s so hard to pick just one star! I’m going to go with Anna May Wong, if that’s alright.

I realized while starting my Paulette Goddard marathon that 3 of the films co-star Bob Hope who also qualifies for me for this challenge. Can I add Bob Hope to my marathon? Thanks!
